Secretary of State Marco Rubio is traveling to Saudi Arabia today to meet with Ukrainian officials.
State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce said in a statement.
Trump told reporters yesterday that he hoped for “very good results” from Rubio’s meeting in Saudi Arabia, expressing optimism that Ukraine will sign a mineral trade agreement with the United States.
The president maintained his belief that Ukrainian leaders had not fully expressed their desire to end the war, but signaled that “it will change over the next two or three days.”
“We want to do everything we can to be serious about getting something done in Ukraine,” Trump said.
Rubio traveled to Saudi Arabia last month, where he began an effort with Russian officials to negotiate the end of the war directly.
Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelenkie was disappointed that it was not included in the negotiations at the time that sparked Trump’s rage. That frustration, coupled with Zelensky’s demand that concrete security assurances be included in the US Ukraine Minerals Agreement, contributed to the oval office clash between the two leaders last month.
