The Baltimore Ravens round out the free agency efforts, but the Pittsburgh Steelers still sit at quarterback Limbo. Aaron Rodgers is waiting to make a decision that probably doesn’t rush. While the rest of the league line up, the Steelers are holding their breath for the 41-year-old quarterback who hasn’t actually committed to playing football.
They are already traded and are expanding DK MetCalf. They signed Mason Rudolph. They set a soft deadline for Rogers to give them an answer by April 21st. And now they just… expect. I hope Rogers choose them. I hope this won’t drag you to training camp. I hope Mike Tomlin is still in control of the locker room.
Laughing more about Pittsburgh costs:
And on Cue, Cam Heyward has already made a volatile comment on the situation.
Mike Tomlin definitely didn’t tell Hayward to say that…
Let’s rewind. It was only a week ago that Hayward made headlines for not only football podcasts but also football podcasts by brushing Rogers’ speculations completely. His recruitment pitch?
“I’m not retreating that darkness. I don’t need that crap. You either want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. It’s easy. That’s the pitch.”
However, this week, Hayward appeared in Goodnight Football. Suddenly, it was all one big misunderstanding.
“Yes, that was misunderstood. From my point of view, I was asked, “Would you go to the length of the dark retreat to recruit Aaron Rodgers?” I said, “I’m not” pitch, if you want to be a steeler, I’m not against Rogers.
right. Completely organic. Certainly no one asked him to clean it up. It’s off topic, but I think it’s when he and Rogers go to that dark retreat that he wasn’t doing.
Perhaps it’s just a coincidence that the Steelers are trying to welcome Rogers. Perhaps it’s just a coincidence that Tomlin is suddenly framed as the guy Rogers “needs” to stay in his competition. And it’s just a coincidence that Heyward suddenly realizes that his previous comments didn’t fit the company’s lines.
Or maybe Tomlin is feeling the heat, but now everyone is in damage control.
Rogers may still retire. The Giants in New York have already passed. I’m not interested in the Minnesota Viking. If this drags on for a long time, Pittsburgh feels like a fallback. This makes Heyward’s new song even more transparent. He had a change of heart, so he didn’t turn over. Because the Steelers had no choice, he turned over and someone had to return the PR stuff.
Rogers may still end in Pittsburgh. But if that’s the case, it’s not because the locker room has recovered to take him.
