The vandalism at the Baps Temple in Chino Hills raises concern over rising religious tensions, particularly at the upcoming Kalistan referendum event.
Baps Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, one of Southern California’s largest Hindu temples, was destroyed by anti-Indian messages on Sunday, marking another disturbing case of hate crimes against the Hindu community in the US.

A spokesperson for Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (Baps) confirmed the temple’s exaggeration sec in Chino Hills, California, and accused the attack as an attempt at hatred with the sow division. The organization emphasized that Hindu communities will continue to remain resilient in the face of such incidents.
“Faced with another Mandil’s exaggeration sec, this time in Chino Hills, California, the Hindu community is in a state of unwavering position with hatred. With Chino Hills and the Southern California community, we never root hatred. Our common humanity and faith ensure that peace and compassion wins,” a Baps spokesperson said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The vandalism raises concerns about growing religious tensions just days before the scheduled “Kalistan referendum” event in Los Angeles. The Adventures have sparked widespread rage among Hindu organizations, with many seeking immediate action from the authorities.
The coalition of North American Hindus (Kona) also condemned the attack, highlighting repeated targeting of American Hindu temples. “Another Hindu temple has been destroyed. This time it’s the iconic Baps temple in Chino Hills, California. It’s just another day in a world where media and scholars claim that there is no anti-Hindu hatred and #hinduphobia is a component of our imagination. Cohna writes to X, urges authorities to investigate the incident, and writes to X:
Destruction of our temple
This is not the first example of the temple’s exaggeration in this area. Last September, Baps Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Sacramento was tainted with an inflammatory message several days after a similar attack on Baps temple in New York. Messages such as “Hindus go” were scribbled on the walls, urging local Hindu communities to be vigilant and to strengthen security measures.
Hindu organizations and community leaders are urging law enforcement to take prompt action to address these cases and ensure the protection of the religious system.
