valley health
Valley Health Authority’s N. Travis Clark, vice president of operations for Shenandoah Hospital and Page Memorial Hospital, has received the prestigious Community Star Award from the National Organization of Local Health Agencies.
Mr. Clark is the only healthcare executive in Virginia to receive this award this year.
The Community Stars Recognition Program was established in 2015 to coincide with National Rural Health Day on November 21 and honors individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to rural communities.
A project close to Clark’s heart is the development of community gardens at several Valley Health campuses in Shenandoah and Page counties. Intended to address food insecurity, these gardens have flourished, producing more than 7,000 pounds of produce this year, and now serve as social hubs and lifelong learning centers.
In addition to his local efforts, Mr. Clark has been appointed by the Virginia Hospital Medical Association to serve on the Local Health Task Force. The task force, established this year, aims to advance rural health across the state. The task force recently completed an analysis of the challenges facing rural health care providers and made recommendations to address issues such as expanding behavioral and maternal health services, improving transportation networks, and strengthening workforce development efforts. submitted a report containing the following.
