Trust company holding seminars
Sanibel Captiva Trust Company provides: “Family Registration Day” — A series of seminars on Florida residency rights, residency status and estate planning — held at 11 a.m. Dec. 19 at offices at 2450 Periwinkle Way in Sanibel and 13525 Bell Tower Drive in Fort Myers.
Staff and local estate planning attorney Jennifer Hammond will join Green Schoenfeld and Kyle for a presentation and Q&A.
Seating is limited and reservations are required.
This seminar is intended for people with investable assets of $2 million or more.

Chamber facilitates storm protection applications
SunCap Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Charitable Foundation of the Islands (CFI) to promote two disaster recovery programs to help small businesses affected by Hurricanes Ian, Helen, and Milton get back on their feet.
CFI’s Sanibel-Captiva Recovery Fund accepts grant applications for independently owned businesses in need. Funds permitting, the average grant is $5,000.
CFI is also partnering with Sanibel Captiva Community Bank on Accelerate, a small business financing program available for a limited time. The $1.2 million is available as a five-year loan up to $100,000, depending on your needs, from a third-party investor. Priority will be given to businesses such as pharmacies, dry cleaners and mechanics that meet critical needs to help rebuild the island and meet the needs of residents and guests.
Dedicated Chamber of Commerce staff will assist businesses with administrative procedures and questions.

SCCF offers 1 year free membership
The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) is offering a free one-year membership to the organization through June.
Those who sign up will be automatically entered into a draw for an Outback Jeep tour with Chief Executive Officer James Evans and up to two guests. This includes breakfast or lunch and an up-close look at private land in SCCF reserves, including normally inaccessible island areas and habitats.
Members also receive 10% off retail prices, including print publications, merchandise at Sanibel Sea School and Native Landscapes & Garden Center, and at more than 150 nature centers in the U.S. that participate in the Nature Center Managers Association network. You will also receive reciprocal benefits.
To maintain your SCCF membership after one year, you must donate at least $100 per year or donate at least 20 volunteer hours per year.

DDWS elects board members and officers
of “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge held its annual general meeting on December 4th at JN. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel.

CFI welcomes participation in the list
The Charitable Foundation of the Islands (CFI) recently announced new board members.
Brian Rist, former executive chairman of The Smart Companies, grew its largest subsidiary, Storm Smart, into one of the largest manufacturers of wind protection products in the United States.
The Sanibel resident will complete CFI’s Leadership Sanibel-Captiva Program in 2024 and serves on the Economic Revitalization Committee.
He teaches entrepreneurship students at Florida Gulf Coast University’s Daveler & Kauanui School of Entrepreneurship how to scale their companies.
List is the founder of the List Family Foundation and has served on philanthropic boards including the Uncommon Friends Foundation, the FGCU Foundation, and the Lee Health Foundation.
