In a clear sign that the Browns will not be changing their head coach, the Browns will be changing their offensive coordinator.
Also.
According to multiple reports (meaning an announcement is imminent), the Browns have waived Ken Dorsey. Offensive line coach Andy Dickerson was also fired.
This is the second year in a row that the Browns have fired an offensive coordinator. After the 2023 season, Alex Van Pelt, who made the playoffs with the Browns, earned the cleats.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski, who was named the 2023 Coach of the Year, earned his chance to become a head coach through his work as offensive coordinator. But the offense’s chronic failures haven’t stuck with him yet.
Dorsey was waived by the Bills during the 2023 season. He was one of several offensive coordinators to crash land in 2024. Van Pelt became New England’s offensive coordinator. Luke Getsy, who was waived by the Bears, was hired by the Raiders. After Pete Carroll was fired, Shane Waldron, who had left the Seahawks, took a job with the Bears.
Everyone except Van Pelt has already been fired. And based on the Patriots’ offensive performance this season, Van Pelt could win it all.
Dorsey’s defense stuck him with quarterback Deshaun Watson until he suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear. And Jameis Winston replaced Dorian Thompson-Robinson on the bench in an apparent effort to focus on the final weeks of the season. On Saturday, Bailey Zappe started in a 35-10 loss to the Ravens.
Mr. Dorsey will not say anything about this, at least until the deal closes. Or until you get a new job where acquisitions become irrelevant. Many coaches who are fired with time left on their contracts won’t say anything that would justify their termination until they collect the money they are owed.
