João Pedro: “I’m happy to score”
“First of all, I’m happy to be back,” said the Brazilian, who scored Brighton’s opener. “It’s good to win like this against a big team because I know I’m an important player for the team. Now we have time to catch our breath and win more games.
About his goal: “There were too many people in the venue, but I’m always told to follow the action, so I was there, so I’m glad I got the goal.” I’m very happy to be back after two months. We dropped too many points last season, so the coach told us to believe in ourselves this season, and this season we’ve been doing well against big teams.”

Jamie Redknapp: The former Liverpool midfielder, who works as a pundit for Sky Sports, can’t believe what he just saw. “That was one of the worst halves of football I’ve seen from Pep Guardiola’s team,” he says.
“They were miserable, they didn’t defend well, they didn’t win individual battles and sometimes they didn’t even pass the ball forward. In the first half they were great, but in the second half, when Hürzeler came on as a substitute, the team that could win… There was only one.”
I know that’s a bit harsh, but Brighton more than deserved to win this game, despite having a slightly higher xG of 2-26 to City’s 2.16. Indeed, City seemed to run out of ideas as the second half dragged on.

Premier League table: Manchester City remain in second place, two points behind Liverpool, who have played one game. Brighton have moved up to 4th place, level on points with Nottingham Forest in 3rd place. Nottingham Forest still have a point left.

Pep Guardiola: After the post-match handshake, the City manager stopped for a long and very lively conversation with Brighton defender Jean-Paul van Hecke. There doesn’t seem to be any animosity between the two, just Pep being Pep.

80 minutes: It looked like Brighton would have another good scoring opportunity after Welbeck collected a cross from Mitoma and was unable to trouble Ederson. However, City were unable to clear the ball and Pedro gently broke the ball away, allowing Pedro’s shot to beat the City goalkeeper. That makes sense for Brighton.
