A New Year’s Eve celebration for families was interrupted after a brick display filled with balloons collapsed in a crowded arcade in Massachusetts.
The Peabody Police Department confirmed in a Facebook post that multiple people were injured when a plastic brick display fell from the mezzanine at In the Game Center in Peabody.
According to the arcade’s Facebook page, it was hosting a “Noon New Year’s Eve Celebration” on Tuesday afternoon.
Peabody Fire Chief John Dowling told Fox News Digital that he received a call shortly after noon that the ceiling of the arcade had partially collapsed.

After arriving on scene, crews discovered that rather than the ceiling collapsing, a 12-foot-tall play brick had collapsed onto people during a botched New Year’s Eve balloon drop, Dowling said. Ta.
Mr Dowling said the balloons were supposed to be released from the display during the party, but it appears someone pulled on the display too hard and caused it to fall.

Ten people were injured Tuesday when a brick display fell on attendees attending a family-friendly New Year’s event at an arcade in Peabody, Massachusetts, fire officials said. (WBZ-TV)
Dowling said 10 people suffered minor injuries. Eight people were taken to hospital for treatment, but two refused medical evacuation.
Of the eight people who sought treatment, three were adults and five were children, Dowling said, mostly with cuts and scrapes.
Lauren Turco, who attended the event with her family, told WBZ-TV it was “utter chaos.”

“We kept watching the balloon fall, but we didn’t realize anything had happened until it took off shortly after it fell,” Turco told WBZ-TV. .
“Kids were crying. There were a lot of people in the office, some with ice packs on their heads,” Turco continued.

The arcade was briefly closed as a precautionary measure after the incident, but reopened a short time later.
A spokesperson for the arcade told FOX News Digital that they are reviewing the situation and cooperating with authorities.
