BILLINGS, Mont. — Dickinson State University earned a commanding victory over the Trojans on Saturday afternoon with a 79-46 victory over Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) at the Fortin Education Center. The Blue Hawks established an early lead and maintained momentum throughout the game, improving to 4-7 on the season.
Dickinson State set the tone in the first quarter with an aggressive attack, defeating SAIT 22-11. Angelica Shanrock and Katherine Fox paced the attack, with Shanrock contributing seven points in the opening frame. The Blue Hawks took advantage of SAIT’s offensive struggles, holding the Trojans to 28.6 percent shooting in the first quarter.
Dickinson State extended its lead in the second quarter with steady scoring from both the starters and bench. Fox continued to find success inside, with Kayden Steele connecting from beyond the arc for a 24-point quarter. The Blue Hawks shot 47.5% from the field and used their commanding presence in the paint to take a 46-22 lead into halftime.
The Blue Hawks held the Trojans in check defensively, forcing 21 turnovers and giving Dickinson State 29 points. Samantha Oase highlighted the defensive intensity, recording key steals and blocked shots to thwart SAIT’s scoring opportunities. Brooke Baker scored a game-high 22 points for the Trojans, but the SAIT offense struggled to find its rhythm, shooting just 30.8 percent from the field overall.
In the third quarter, the Bluehawks stayed calm and responded to short scores by the Trojans with timely baskets from Fox and Oase. Whitney Edwards spent valuable time off the bench, adding four points and three rebounds. Dickinson State entered the final quarter with a commanding 62-36 advantage.
The Blue Hawks finished the game on a high note, with reserves Sandy Friday and Tate Cohn each sinking 3-point shots late in the fourth, and Dickinson State’s bench scored 28 points.
Fox led the Blue Hawks with 16 points while shooting 50% from the field. Shanrock scored 15 points and was perfect from the free throw line, while Oase added 10 points and six rebounds.
