NASHVILLE, TN (November 11, 2024) – University of North Alabama men’s tennis junior Lachlan Brain won the singles men’s bracket championship at the UTR Sports College Circuit Tournament in Tennessee this past weekend, highlighting a nine-win weekend for the Lions.
Sponsored by Belmont, UNA traveled to Nashville with seven players to compete in the College Open Tournament. Although the tournament was shortened due to inclement weather, UNA shined with Blaine’s first place finish and the Lions’ solid performance in all games.
Blaine defeated three Belmont players to secure five wins for the top spot before facing SEC talent Nathan Cox of Vanderbilt. The juniors performed well in the finals, defeating the Commodores in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
His road to the finals began with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Finn Pollard and a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Belmont’s Charlie Robin in the first round. Blaine defeated Belmont’s Morgan Woodson 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals and defeated Bruin Esunge Ndumbe 6-4, 7-5 in the final to earn a spot in the title hunt. secured the right.
North Alabama got four more wins from senior Nazar Fedryshin, freshman Satoru Nakajima and sophomores Birtan Duran and Alberto Artur. Each won the opening match of the main draw, but lost their respective subsequent matches. Nakajima opened the first round with a walkover, then defeated Belmont’s Eli Miselski in the second round, 7(7)-6(4), 6-4. Duran followed up a first-round bye with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Axel Le Haux of Wallace State Community College. Following a first-round bye, Fedryshin defeated Kostyantyn Zvyahintsev (Brescia) 6-1, 6-1, while Arthur faced Lipscomb’s opponent Stefan Cvetkovic (Atlantic Sun Conference) in his first round.・Sun Conference) with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

With the 2024 fall season final, North Alabama men’s tennis is looking ahead to the 2025 championship season. The Lions won 92 games in the fall season and look to use that success to provide momentum into the upcoming spring season, which is filled with high expectations. .
