Binghamton University has made a significant jump in one of the nation’s most recognized college rankings lists. The university jumped 47 spots, from 85th to 38th, in the “Best Value” category of U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 “Best Colleges” list.
Looking specifically at public universities, Binghamton University was ranked fourth in the nation and first in New York.
“We are pleased to have made this leap on one of the most prestigious lists in the nation, and even more pleased when we consider what it means for our students,” said President Harvey Stenger. “Binghamton students enjoy a top-tier academic program with renowned professors at a fraction of the cost of rival universities, and this ranking underscores that great value.”
Outside of the “Best Value” category, Binghamton also ranked highly in the “National Universities” category, maintaining its all-time high of #73. The university also ranked among the top 50 public universities in the U.S., an honor it has held for more than a quarter century. This year, Binghamton ranked #34 among public universities in the nation.
U.S. News bases its Best Value Schools rankings on four factors:
Academic quality/cost ratio (50%) Number of students receiving need-based aid (20%) Number of students receiving scholarships or grants (20%) Average discount from the school’s total list price (10%)
“We are pleased that the value of a Binghamton education is becoming further recognized nationwide,” said Chancellor Donald Hall. “This ranking demonstrates that Binghamton is an exceptional and practical choice for students and their families making big decisions.”
Binghamton University also ranked highly in U.S. News’ rankings of Best Schools for Veterans (42nd), Social Mobility (82nd), Nursing (114th), Computer Science (126th), Business (94th), Engineering (98th), Psychology (79th) and Economics (114th).
Binghamton University was also recently named one of The Wall Street Journal’s “Best Colleges in America for 2025,” Forbes’ “America’s Top Colleges,” and Princeton Review’s “Top 10 Best Value Colleges Without Aid.”
