Atlanta Drive (Billie Horschel, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantray) is the first TGL champion to beat New York (Xander Schaufele, Ricky Fowler, Cameron Young) 4-3 on Tuesday night.
And it took a pretty dramatic comeback to pull it off.
After winning the first match of the last three Sophie Cup 6-5 on Monday night, the drive found himself facing a 3-0 deficit after 10 holes in his second match.
New York scored a 1-0 lead with No. 8, doubled the lead on No. 9 when Xander Schauffele threw a slow hammer.
Schaufele rather than defeating Thomas on No. 10 to expand his lead to 3-0.
And that’s where the fun started.
Atlanta used hammers on both No. 12 and No. 13, and New York admitted both, pulling the drive’s deficit to just 3-2. Atlanta then used the final hammer at No. 14, New York accepted, and Horschel hit the putt of the season.
The two were then tied together at No. 15, which ended and handed Atlanta their first Sophie Cup title and a $9 million award to coincide.
