New Hampshire:
US President Joe Biden said Tuesday at his New Hampshire campaign office that Republican Donald Trump is a threat to democracy and should be “politically” restrained to win the Nov. 5 election. He encouraged Democrats to do so.
“We have to lock him up,” Biden said at the Democratic Party’s campaign office in Concord, New Hampshire, to applause. “Lock him up politically. Lock him out. That’s what we have to do,” he said.
Biden said Republican candidate and former President Trump wants to ignore safeguards in the U.S. Constitution. If Trump were to defeat Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, “our democracy would be at stake,” he said.
When Trump ran for president in 2016, he repeatedly hosted rallies where crowds chanted “Lock her up,” referring to then-Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. He did not let them stop chanting the chant.
At Harris’ rallies this year, her crowd chanted “Lock him up,” referring to Trump, who was convicted of 34 felonies related to concealing hush money paid to porn stars. There was also. He also faces charges of illegally trying to overturn his 2020 election defeat.
But Harris called off the chant, saying the Justice Department would address the issue while she worked to defeat the former president at the polls.
