A small bakery in downtown Belfast appears to have quietly closed its doors sometime last year.
Moonbat City Baking Company, which opened in 2013 at 137 Main St., was known for its carefully crafted croissants and was typically open only two or three days a week. It’s one of many restaurants and food service businesses across Maine that have closed over the past year due to business challenges such as inflation and staffing shortages.
The bakery’s sign has been removed from the side of the brick building, its phone number has been disconnected and its website is no longer accepting orders. The fact that it’s listed on Google indicates that it’s permanently closed.
Michelle Berry, owner and chef of Moonbat City Baking, did not respond to a request for comment. So did the building owner.
It is unclear when exactly the bakery closed. Last online review was about a year ago. It received generally high ratings on restaurant review sites.
“Cinnamon Twist was heaven on earth,” one customer wrote on the website Yelp, although the bakery’s profile also states that it is closed. This profile was last updated in October.
