As Tuesday begins, Georgia is atop the nation’s recruiting rankings for the 2025 class ahead of Wednesday’s signing day. Georgia leads Alabama, Ohio State, Texas and Auburn in total team points.
Now let’s take a closer look at how the race for first place will be decided.
Current 247Sports composite team recruiting rankings:
1. Georgia (305.14 points)
2. Alabama (302.50)
3. Ohio State University (302.10)
4. Texas (297.77)
5. Auburn (294.60)
Only 10 team points separate the first and fifth place teams. For comparison, there are 20 points between the No. 6 team (LSU) and the No. 10 team (Tennessee). Therefore, the competition for the top spot is fierce.
The big question heading into the final stretch: Will anyone be able to catch Georgia?
Naturally, all the people who are the key to solving the puzzle are five stars. Justus Terry, a dedicated defensive lineman from Manchester (Ga.); Tennessee offensive tackle David Sanders (Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day). and Naeem Offord Parker of Birmingham (Alabama), who plays cornerback for Ohio State University.
Terry is expected to announce his decision on Friday, Dec. 6, and Georgia is the unanimous favorite to win the 247Sports Crystal Ball despite late pushes from Auburn and Texas. The addition of Terry gives Georgia 310.96 points, all else being equal.

Sanders is scheduled to sign on Wednesday, and if Ohio State removes Sanders from the Vols, the Buckeyes would score 308.81 points, all else being equal, but almost 2 points more than the Dawgs in this scenario. There is a point difference. That includes the Buckeyes clinging to Offord, which 247Sports national analyst Tom Roy predicts will flip him in 247Sports’ Crystal Ball.
So where does Ohio State’s hope lie?
This brings up the following two names: Usman Kromer, a four-star running back who is committed to Georgia, and Anthony Rodgers, a commit. While Auburn poses a threat to Georgia for Kromer, Rodgers is extremely reliable for the Buckeyes. If Georgia loses Croma and is still a factor in acquiring Terry, and if Ohio State gets Rodgers and Sanders and keeps Offord, the Buckeyes would score 310.56 points and the Dawgs would score 308.43.
What’s even more interesting is that if the above scenario were to play out, plus Georgia flipping four-star Kevin Wynn from the Florida State defensive line, the Dawgs would score 310.49 points. In this case, it’s all about 1/10th of a point to decide first place.
Dark horse potential for Auburn and Texas
You can see Auburn has been linked to several of the aforementioned prospects. Will the Tigers, currently in fifth place, be able to jump to first place?
If Auburn gets Terry, Croma, and Offord, all else being the same for Auburn’s class, that’s 309.73 points, regardless of what else Georgia State, Ohio State, etc. do. , Auburn could be No. 1 in the class.
If Texas, currently ranked No. 4, acquires Michael Terry III, an unsigned five-star athlete from Texas, in addition to Terry, the Lone Horns would end up with 310 points, all else being equal. It will probably be exceeded. That would give the Longhorns ammunition to get to No. 1.
history
In 13 cycles in 247Sports history, Georgia has been No. 1 three times, including in 2024.
Alabama has finished in first place nine times, including six times in a row from 2012 to 2017.
Texas A&M (2022) is the only other program to take the No. 1 spot.
Average rating and 5 stars per commitment
Another reliable metric for evaluating top programs is the average rating per commitment. This ignores class volume and focuses on individual talent.
Oregon (93.63 rating per commitment) leads all schools, followed by Alabama (93.20), Texas (93.07), Georgia (92.88), Ohio State (92.79) and Michigan (92.225). Continue.
Oregon has the fewest commitments (17), while Georgia has the most (28). Of course, maintaining a high average with more commitments is even better, so hats off to the Dawgs.
Yet another way to measure a great recruiting class is the number of five stars. Once again, Kirby Smart’s program is currently leading the way.
Current 5-star numbers as of Wednesday:
Georgia: 5
Alabama, Texas: 4
Ohio, Oregon: 3
Michigan LSU: 2
