Thousands of Bank of America customers faced difficulty accessing their online accounts Wednesday afternoon as the bank suffered a major outage. Customers reported issues such as not being able to view account balances on social media. Even more concerning, some users who had access to their accounts found their balances showing as $0, sparking widespread alarm and concern.
Outage tracking platform Downdetector saw a spike in reports of the issue around 12:45pm ET. According to Downdetector’s outage map, complaints about this issue are pouring in from major cities including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Phoenix, Houston, and Chicago.
Affected customers received an error message that read “Your account is temporarily unavailable” or “Some accounts and balances are temporarily unavailable.” For many people, a “connection error” message appears when they try to log into their banking app. The message read, “Your request could not be completed,” and asked users to “try again later.”

Bank of America acknowledged in a statement to CNN that “some customers today are experiencing issues accessing their account and balance information.”
“These issues have been addressed and are largely resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the bank added.
