This cost the United States a medal in the 4×400, and ultimately no Americans won a medal on the first day of competition. A new nuclear reactor could turn wastewater into drinking water while producing one of the world’s most sought-after chemicals. The new reactor, published August 12 in the journal Nature Catalysis, produces ammonia gas from water contaminated with nitrate ions.Ammonia (NH3) is a crucial industrial chemical. It is one of the main components of fertilizers and is also essential in chemical manufacturing processes. More than 180 million tons (163 million metric tons) are produced annually, most of it via the century-old Haber-Bosch process, a high-temperature, high-pressure reaction of hydrogen and nitrogen. According to the study, this single chemical reaction consumes about 2%…

CNN — Black country music is in the spotlight thanks to the success of Beyoncé’s latest album, Cowboy Carter, and the rise of artists like Nigerian-American singer Shaboozie, and Dusty & the Stones are capitalizing on that energy. Their story may sound like a typical country band origin story, but the duo isn’t from the American South, but Mooihoek in the small African country of Eswatini (formerly known as Swaziland). The troubles of rural America may…
Three Danish energy technology companies have started construction of the world’s first green ammonia plant in the Danish town of Ramme. The plant is said to be capable of producing 5,000 tonnes of green ammonia per year using only solar and wind energy, and Topsoe reports that the initiative will prevent 8,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year. This production volume takes into account natural fluctuations in the electricity generated by the plant’s solar panels and wind turbines, with the aim to optimize the electrolysis and ammonia synthesis loops based on these fluctuations, making the entire process more cost-efficient.This puts Topsoe,…
