Atelier4 is blazing its own trail in the art storage and transportation space. This week, the industry veteran announced it is launching a new, exclusive service called Art Aboard, which specializes in “curating and managing art exhibitions on luxury yachts,” according to a company statement.
The New York-based company plans to continue its expansion into the greater Miami area by shipping its customers’ treasured artworks to Atelier4’s climate-controlled stage in a Florida warehouse, from where they will be transported to luxury ships upon docking, with Art Aboard finding custom installation solutions to suit each vessel’s unique characteristics.
Despite the ongoing excitement, there is some hesitation about the service’s launch. “You don’t want to put a paper painting on a yacht,” Miami-based art advisor Karen Boyer tells Artnet. She points out that many factors change at sea, including humidity and temperature, so it’s important to be careful. But Boyer also shares her past experiences with people who like to put art on their boats, or potential customers who “have this need.”
A few years ago, Atelier4 CEO Jonathan Schwartz decided to pull away from major art fairs, but Art Aboard has continued the company’s innovative mindset. Since founding Art Aboard, Schwartz has remained optimistic about the business across land and sea. With a team that includes yacht crew, art advisors, insurance companies and support services, Art Aboard maintains its commitment to preservation and enhances the art atmosphere on the friendly shores of the ocean.
