Are you taking advantage of Amazon Chore Prime benefits? Find out why you should.
Get more out of your Prime membership for your Amazon household!
Did you know you can share Amazon Prime with your family? That’s true. It doesn’t cost you any extra money. This Amazon benefit also includes shared Prime benefits such as access to TV, video streaming, and e-books.
We investigated this Amazon feature and tell you all the details you need to know.
First, what is Amazon Household?
Amazon Households eliminates the need for your family to have multiple Amazon Prime accounts. Prime members who sign up for Amazon Home can share many of their Prime benefits with other family members in their home at no additional cost. If you previously used Amazon Family, those benefits are now categorized into Amazon House, which offers even more benefits.
How does Amazon Household work?
Choose one designated adult in your household to sign up and pay for an Amazon Prime account. This person can invite other members of their household to join the membership. Each household is allowed 2 adults, 4 youth, and 4 children on one account. Once all your accounts are linked, you’ll be able to share Amazon Prime benefits like free shipping, Amazon Photos, streaming services, and more.
If you already have an Amazon Prime account, follow the steps below to add family members to your household.

Setting up Amazon Household is easy. This benefit is valid for up to 2 adults, 4 youth, and 4 children living under the same roof. First, have one adult sign up for Amazon Prime and create an Amazon household. At this point, you can “Add Adult,” “Add Teen,” or “Add Child.” Participating families will be emailed a special login link to accept the invitation.
Each household can have two accounts for adults 18 years of age or older. Share all your digital content and Prime benefits. Both adults have access to monitor minors’ accounts at home. Adult accounts are linked and must agree to share their payment method. Please note that although your accounts are linked, your order history will be kept separate. This is useful because the adults in the house can buy gifts for each other without anyone else knowing what’s in the box.
Teen accounts are for ages 13-17. Teens can shop on their own, and if they want to buy something, an adult will approve the order via text message. Adults can also set order value limits to allow youth to make purchases without approval. Teen Login isn’t compatible with Kindle, Prime Music, or paid Prime Video content, but it does give you access to most Prime benefits.
Child Accounts are for children 12 years of age and younger. Your child’s account can’t shop, but they can access digital content and Kindle. This type of account allows adults in the home to set parental controls and time limits.
Will Amazon home prices be higher?
no! Amazon Prime members can use Amazon Household at no additional charge. 🙌
*Please note that discounts and/or promotional memberships may be excluded from certain Amazon Household benefits.
How much can I save with Amazon Household?
Let’s get into the good stuff and talk about saving money. A standard Amazon Prime membership costs $139 per year. You can also purchase monthly for $14.99 per month.
The amount you can save varies depending on the size of your family. A small family of two adults and one youth can save more than $29 per month, or at least $278 per year, by choosing Amazon Household instead of an individual membership. The more people in your family, the more you save!
7 Amazon Prime Home Benefits to share with your family:
1. Free Prime shipping for everyone in your household.
One of the biggest benefits of Amazon Prime is free and fast shipping. Many items have free shipping and can be delivered on the same day, the next day, or the day after. With Amazon House, this benefit is available to the whole family.
Please note that teens cannot order Whole Foods or Amazon Fresh. However, you can still order snacks from Wickedly Prime.
2. A convenient perk of Amazon Prime for Home is that your family can enjoy Prime Video.
Prime Video is one of the biggest benefits of Amazon Prime. With Amazon Home, you can share these streaming services with your family (excluding paid Prime Video content). Adults can also set parental controls for minors.
3. Families can enjoy free books on Prime Reading and Amazon First Reads.
Amazon has a huge library of over 1,000 books, magazines, comics, and more. Amazon Prime members get unlimited access to this collection! From children’s books to nonfiction, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy. These books can be read on multiple devices using the free Kindle app. You can also read it on Kindle and Fire devices.
If you have Amazon House, your family can share this benefit. Adults can set limits on the type of content that children can read. Unfortunately, Kindle does not currently support teen login.
4. Save and share your memories with Amazon Photos.
All Prime members get 5 GB of full-resolution photo and video storage for free. Purchase additional storage for as low as $1.99 per 100 GB per month. Amazon House makes it easy and affordable to keep all your family memories in one place.
5. Get early access to the best lightning deals and exclusive coupons.
Lightning Deals are time-sensitive deals that can help you save big. Become a Prime member and get early access to these great discounts. Light sales happen every day, but also on Amazon Prime Day, one of my favorite times of the year.
If you have an Amazon household, your family also has early access to these great sale prices. Additionally, Amazon Household members have access to exclusive coupons and promotional offers.
6. Use Amazon House to share other digital content like apps and games.
Amazon Prime members have access to tons of apps and games. If you have a gamer in your house, sign up for Amazon House and get access to free games, free in-game content, and even a free monthly subscription to a Twitch channel. You also have access to several Amazon apps, including Audible, The Wall Street Journal, and Kindle.
7. Adults can share discounts on important items like baby diapers.
Adults who share an Amazon Housekeeping account can get up to 20% off subscriptions on essential items like diapers and baby food. Amazon Household Members also receive 15% off baby registry completion discounts and 10% off hundreds of sales items at all Whole Food Market stores.
Some of these benefits were part of an older program called Amazon Family. The program is now discontinued, and Amazon customer service representatives and the Amazon website say that these Amazon Prime Family account benefits are now under the Amazon Household umbrella.
Are there any Prime benefits that cannot be shared through Amazon Households?
yes. Unfortunately, not all Prime benefits can be shared with a child or teenager’s login.
Teens – This type of account login does not allow you to order groceries from Whole Foods or Amazon Fresh. Teens can’t upgrade photo storage, share paid Prime Video content, buy digital content, or register Kindle devices. For additional exclusions, see Amazon’s Q&A on Teen Login. Children – Children’s accounts cannot shop on Amazon. Having a child account means sharing digital content with your child and monitoring their use. Kids can access content using a variety of devices, including Fire tablets and Kindle e-readers.

“My husband and I use this feature! We set this up a few years ago because we share the same account and it showed us our orders and search history, which ruined some of our surprise gifts. Because Amazon likes to suggest things similar to what you’re looking at. It worked great for us. also has my login information, so we can order gifts for each other without worrying that the other person will find out.” – Liz, Hip2Save Team
“I like that my account is kept separate, especially for gifts, because I don’t want other people to see my order history. All other aspects like payment options, address, etc. are also created separately. I think it’s great for families with partners and older children to be able to split the costs of one account and enjoy all the benefits of two accounts. I think that would be the main consideration because there are certain promotions, but IMO the benefits far outweigh that.” – Emily, Hip2Save Team
