Mr. Steichen explained the points he emphasized to Mr. Richardson this week.
“What I mean is his attention to detail in everything he does, from the classroom to the walk-throughs to practice to the weight room. All those little things have to be of a higher standard. ” said Steichen. “That’s what was discussed and we decided to go with it. We talked about it with him two weeks ago and that was the conversation that took place. And in the last two weeks he’s made progress. ”
Richardson is only 22 years old and in his second year in the NFL. He started 12 games during his career at the University of Florida and 10 games with the Colts after his rookie season ended prematurely with a shoulder injury.
The Colts knew there would be ups and downs moments in Richardson’s development, and there certainly were. Officials say if the process and preparations are in place, they are willing to follow them.
He believes the team’s leadership and coaching staff will pay close attention to Richardson when it comes to preparation off the field and in meetings. Essentially, Richardson had to accept how intense it was.
And officials highlighted what Steichen has said publicly about Richardson, saying the change in preparation during his two-week absence was noticeable.
Today, the Colts hope that starts to reflect on the field.
