Angel Reese will be attending Sunday’s WNBA Draft Lottery to wish him luck and represent his team, the Chicago Sky.
Unfortunately for the Sky, due to the 2023 trade with the Dallas Wings, they won’t have a chance to acquire the No. 1 overall pick, nor will they have the chance to draft Paige Bueckers, who would likely be the top pick. Dallas sent Marina Mabry to Chicago for the right to trade a first-round pick to the Sky.
If Chicago’s first-round pick exceeds their own after the lottery, Dallas will exercise its swap rights. The Sky is hoping the Wings can hit the lottery and land the No. 2 overall pick with their own ping-pong ball.
Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Reese, a lottery pick and a Sky representative, will be joining Chicago after Chicago fires head coach Teresa Weatherspoon and then hires former Las Vegas Aces assistant Tyler Marsh to replace her. It was his first public appearance in front of the team since then.
The Sky hopes to build a team around Reese, the No. 7 overall pick in last year’s draft, and Camila Cardoso, the No. 3 overall pick in the same draft. Chicago needs to add some extra shooting, especially after trading Mabry to the Connecticut Sun at the July trade deadline to recoup draft capital.
The lottery odds are better than Sky’s, especially for the Los Angeles Sparks, who have a 44.2% chance of winning the lottery, but they hope Reese will bring them luck.
