TWC Youth Robotics Grant Encourages High School Students to Pursue STEM Careers
AUSTIN – The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded $1.4 million in grants to youth robotics programs that will enable more than 8,200 Texas high school students to participate in youth robotics competitions. Two applicants were awarded grants this year: Robotics Education and Competition Foundation, Inc. and FIRST in Texas.
“The Texas Workforce Commission offers numerous programs to prepare the Texas workforce for high-demand occupations,” TWC Chairman Brian Daniel said in a news release. “We are helping pave the way for the next generation of Texans to succeed in the Texas economy.”
The Youth Robotics Initiative promotes interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) by expanding high school students’ participation in robotics programs, training new teams for robotics education competitions, and supporting existing competitive teams. Additionally, the program removes barriers to participation for students in underserved urban and rural schools. Each grant recipient also has a team made up of students with disabilities.
“By supporting youth robotics, we’re not only investing in education, we’re investing in the leaders of tomorrow,” said Labor Representative TWC Commissioner Alberto Treviño III. “This program equips students with the skills they need for successful careers in STEM fields.”
Love’s celebrates 60th anniversary with $378,000 donation to local schools
OKLAHOMA CITY – Love’s roots trace back to one country store in Watonga, Oklahoma, in 1964. That year, the late founder Tom Love and his wife Judy Love opened one country store to serve residents and visitors with confidence, ambition and innovation, a vision that has now grown to approximately 650 travel and country stores across the country.
To celebrate these roots and its 60th anniversary, Love’s is pledging $6,000 to a school or school district in each of the 63 cities where it operates country stores. The initiative spans five states, totaling $378,000. Community leaders and store team members in Oklahoma, Kansas, Utah, Colorado and Arizona selected their local schools/districts to receive the donations.
“On behalf of El Reno Public Schools and El Reno High School, I want to thank you for your donation to our school. This donation will go a long way to helping our school have a great and successful school year,” said Tim Pounds, Principal of El Reno High School in Oklahoma. “I know the kids are enjoying being outside and being able to buy snacks, gas and everything at Love’s. We are so grateful for this donation and for having Love’s in our community.”
