Christian Campbell had high hopes when he created the Boston Red Sox roster for the first day.
He hit the ball in his first two MLB at-bats. Boston media quickly attacked him the morning after the Red Sox’s first day victory. 98.5 Sports Hub’s Tony Massarotti tore Campbell’s Big League introduction on Friday’s “Felger and Mazz” radio show.
“Christian Campbell wasn’t very good in this game either,” Massoattty said. “Defensively, I saw it again this morning. He looked scared. He was nervous. …Do you want my honest opinion? It’s a little more extreme. He wasn’t ready for the big leagues. He didn’t.”
You can hear Masarotti’s full take here.
Certainly, the Red Sox’s second baseman had some nerves in his debut. It’s normal, but he quickly weathered the storm.

Campbell had two hits on Friday night, adding two more against the Texas Rangers. MLB had the opportunity to troll Masarotti when X’s admin account posted Campbell’s highlights.
“He doesn’t look like he’s not ready for the big leagues, Mike!” MLB has been posted.
Either way, the sample size is small, but the Red Sox should be excited by the production they’ve got from Campbell so far.
