Fire Festival – but in winter.
Local tourist attractions in southwestern China made guests step and get lost.
The Chengdu Snow Village Project in Sichuan tried to attract tourists and visitors during the New Year of the Moon. The winter wonderland was touted as a feature of a log cabin and thick layer of snow covering the roof.
However, when visitors arrived, they discovered that the “snow” was a large cotton bed sheet, foamy water, white sand, and cotton balls.
Photos shared on social media show fragments of cotton scattered across fields and small bushes. The large cotton sheets on the roof also featured staple food marks that were clearly visible to guests.
The project apologised and blamed the unusually warm weather.
“To create a ‘snowy’ atmosphere, the tourist village bought cotton for the snow…but it did not achieve the expected effect and was very good for the tourists who visited. It left a bad impression,” he said in a statement, adding. Reuters said a refund will be offered.
“Following past years’ precedent, we usually have snow in the winter. Snow Village staff told the state-run Paper Global Times. “But this year, the weather has not cooperated and there is no snow. It didn’t fall.”
Market regulators are investigating Snow Village for alleged false advertising, Chengdu’s Cultural, Radio, Film and Tourism Bureau said in a statement.
Chengdu Snow Village removed all images of the attraction from its social media page and the venue was then closed.
