Adidas’s In a statement, the company confirmed to CNBC that its German headquarters were raided on Tuesday in connection with a multi-year tax investigation.
The agency has been investigating customs and tax regulations on products imported into Germany for approximately five years, from October 2019 to August this year, the spokesperson said.
The headquarters’ offices in Herzogenaurach and other locations were also searched. Adidas said it has provided relevant documents and information to investigating authorities and has been in contact with customs authorities on the matter over the past several years.
Adidas said in a statement: “The company does not anticipate any material financial impact related to the investigation.”
“We will continue to work closely with customs authorities to also clarify issues arising from different interpretations of German and European law,” the company said.
The tax investigation is the latest scandal to hit the sneaker maker, following its devastating breakup with rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, over anti-Semitic comments.
Additional details regarding the tax audit are not available at this time. Shares rose slightly in after-hours trading.
