PHOENIX – Abrazo Health staff traded in their stethoscopes for shovels Tuesday as they broke ground on a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital.
The hospital will be connected to Goodyear’s Abrazo West campus, allowing doctors to monitor patients who need specialized care or are in the process of recovery.
“We are pleased to be able to track our patients’ rehabilitation progress at a facility closer to the hospital and in the communities where they live,” Sushant Kale, interventional neurologist and director of stroke and interventional neurology at the Abrazo West Campus, said in a press release. “This model allows critically ill patients to receive fully coordinated care as they move into the post-acute phase of recovery.”
Patients are provided with a range of rehabilitation services including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, medicine, surgery and medical consultations.
The hospital will care for patients recovering from trauma, cardiovascular surgery, stroke, advanced spinal care and other specialty care at the Abrazo West Campus.
“Providing this type of collaborative care environment is consistent with our mission to grow the Abrazo West Campus into a truly comprehensive medical campus for the residents of the West Valley,” said Abrazo West CEO Hans Driesnack. “Having inpatient rehabilitation services on campus, supported by physicians from the same medical team, allows us to track patients’ care from the acute phase through rehabilitation and back into the community.”
The two-story building is scheduled to be completed and ready for occupancy in September 2025.
The hospital will be housed in the Abrazo Litchfield Medical Building, which will have 24 beds and rehabilitation services on the second floor. Physician offices and an outpatient imaging suite will be located on the first floor. The West Campus hospital will be connected to the new building by a pedestrian walkway.
Abrazo Health says the new building will add 46 full-time jobs to the area.
Abrazo Health has multiple hospitals, urgent care centers and clinics throughout the Valley, and the company continues to grow its presence in the Valley, beginning construction on a new medical campus in Buckeye in March.
