ABC News has named David Muir the new leader of its flagship evening news program, “World News Tonight.”
Chris Dinan will immediately become executive producer of the show after serving as senior broadcast producer for the past 10 years. The announcement was made Monday morning by ABC News President Armin Karamedovic, who served as the program’s EP until his promotion in August.
Dinan joined ABC in 2011 and spent much of his career at CBS News, working for anchors such as Dan Rather and Katie Couric.
“Since joining the ABC News family in 2011, Chris has become an integral part of the World News Tonight team,” Karamemedovic wrote in a memo to staff. “He has worked on some of the most important stories of our time, from the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. His dedication to journalism is… Shown in his extensive experience covering conflict zones in Iraq and Afghanistan, Chris has developed a well-deserved reputation as a straightforward journalist who knows how to navigate the control room with skill and confidence. Ta.”
Karamemedovic added that senior producers Anjoli Francis, Jennifer Metz and Brian Reiferson will take on additional live production duties in the World News control room.
