A teenager died after being attacked by a shark in Queensland, Australia.
The rescue team reported on Monday on the “serious shark bite case” at Worim Beach, just north of Brisbane.
Police confirmed that the girl had a life -threatening injury and had died shortly after 17:00. Australian media reports that she was 17 years old.
Many sharks live in the waters around the beach, but the attacks occur near the coast of a popular surfing spot that has measures to protect sharks.
Police confirmed that the girl was swimming in the sea off the coast of the Burivy Island, right next to the mainland where Urim Beach is sitting. When she was attacked by a shark, the species were not identified.
Queensland ambulance service confirmed that the victim had been injured to her upper body.
According to Australian media, she was bitten by a 100m arm from the coast.
Christopher Potter arrived at the beach shortly after the attack occurred. He tells ABC News as follows:
“I know there are many sharks around BRIBIE, but this is still shocking because it’s close to the coast.”
Water near the beach is protected by the drum line -The barrel fixed to the sea floor is feeding on a hook to catch too close sharks.
The target species involved in these are euthanized, and other species are relocated and released.
Police said that it would create a report on the case of the death of Monday on Monday.
After Surfarer Lance Apple Bee was killed off the coast of South Australia on January 2, this year is the second death of a shark in the Australian waters.
The last fatal attack in the Brisbane metropolitan area was held in 2006 when the 21 -year -old Sarah was killed while swimming with a friend.
According to the state government’s website, shark attacks in Queensland rarely “rarely happen. Most sharks do not bring risks to people.”
