MARINA DEL REY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A luxury yacht docked in Marina del Rey caught fire and sank on Wednesday night.
The blaze in Basin A was first reported around 8:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters rushed to the scene and doused the 100-foot-long boat with water from a pier at the end of Bora Bora Way.
Witness video captured several explosions as firefighters battled the blaze.
A luxury yacht docked in Marina del Rey caught fire and sank.
However, the flames on board seemed to resist the water hoses and the ship continued to take damage. Water soon began pouring in through the hoses as the blaze, likely fuelled by a gas source, continued to burn.
The yacht began to list and firefighters were ordered to evacuate the pier at about 10:30 pm as the yacht slowly rolled over and began to sink into the water.
No serious injuries were reported. Two passengers escaped safely, although one reported a minor cut to his arm.
The cause of the fire has not been revealed, but authorities said there may have been ammunition on board.
The ship is named “Admiral,” but the identity of its owner was not immediately released.
