Anticipation began building after the city of Greenville announced the opening of the luxury pop-up store Bal Harbour Shops in late July.
The Haywood Mall facility will consist of 32 shipping containers housing approximately 10 luxury brand shops and a fine dining restaurant, The Whitman. The grand opening is scheduled for August 24 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The facility will be in Greenville for eight weeks.
It’s modeled after Bal Harbour Shops, the first shopping center founded by Stanley Whitman in 1965 on the site of a former World War II Army barracks in Bal Harbour, Florida. The lifestyle conglomerate is still owned by the Whitman family and is led by Stanley’s grandson, Matthew Whitman Lazenby.
“The big idea here, besides creating a shopping center out of shipping containers, is [high-fashion products] “To a marketplace where participating retailers can demonstrate that their customers are clearly there but cannot access the goods,” Whitman Lazenby said.
Other locations for pop-up stores include Raleigh, North Carolina and Sarasota, Florida.
Brands will rotate throughout the residency, giving visitors the opportunity to experience other stores.
The participating designers are as follows:
Tiffany & Co. Dolce & Gabbana Balmain Paris Veronica Beard Golden Goose Lanvin Etro Assouline Santa Maria Novella Scanlan Theodore Eleventy
Tiffany will serve as anchor and the show will run for eight weeks.
Whitman Lazenby said part of the brand’s appeal is the movement of wealthy people since the 2020 pandemic, creating opportunities in new locations for luxury brands.
“There’s a reallocation and distribution of wealth that’s happening,” Whitman Lazenby said. “A lot of brands are looking to capitalize on that and find people in these markets.”
The company is offering personal shopping teams to help shoppers purchase items sold in its roughly 110 stores, including items not sold at the pop-up.
The Florida flagship location is home to food and beverage concepts like Avenue 31 and Makoto, and the pop-up store offers a taste of the experience at The Whitman.
The team will partner with Constellation Culinary to build a 250-seat restaurant with both indoor and outdoor dining elements.
Haywood Mall is located at 700 Haywood Road, east of downtown Greenville, near Interstate 385.
