I was born and raised in Iowa and lived in either Benton or Linn counties for most of my 39 years. I graduated from Washington High School in Vinton in 2003 and graduated from Northeast Iowa Community College School of Nursing in Peosta in December 2006.
For many years, I cared for many patients and their families from the delivery room to their deathbed throughout eastern Iowa while raising three children as a single mother. I graduated from Walden University in the spring of 2014 with a master’s degree in nursing education. I had intended to teach at the university level, but fate intervened.
The court unfairly stripped me of my parental rights, and on December 14, 2019, I was forced to say goodbye to my children. My family was gone, my professional reputation was in jeopardy, and I felt like I had lost everything I had worked for my whole life. It’s as if the whole world has been turned upside down and turned inside out! Since then, I have spent my time networking and relentless research, trying to find ways to prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak and trauma.
The silver lining in my family’s tragic story is that I have been blessed with the freedom to truly care for myself and heal and strengthen my mental health.
My fiancé and I have also spent a lot of time volunteering over the past few years directly helping several families. From home repairs and gardening to cleaning and organizing to discussing personal challenges, we have provided practical support and counseling to help you recover from your personal crisis.
I never saw myself involved in politics. I’ve never run for office, especially at the state level, but this is where my journey has led me and I know I’m right where I’m supposed to be. Endless research, built on my personal life experiences and knowledge gained throughout my education and professional career, provides me with the wisdom and wisdom I need to effectively advocate for Iowans in the 84th District. You’ve got the tools. I’m the best candidate for the job. I am dedicated and passionate about working with Republicans and Democrats to find better solutions that will make Iowa great again, for all Iowans.
Ashley Meredith is the Liberal candidate for House District 84.
