At that point, Guita began running down an unmarked roadway in a nearby driveway as the deputy tried to avoid being hit by a vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. The adjutant followed Gita and eventually led him to a small summer cabin.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies soon heard an elderly man on the ground a short distance from the cabin crying for help. The man had a medical condition that required certain medications, but he had been unable to take them since he had fallen and hurt his leg a few hours earlier.
“Had he not been found, he could have had serious consequences,” the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office did not say how Gita’s owner was treated or where she was taken. However, authorities clearly acknowledged that Gita “saved his life that day,” describing her as “a rescue dog and a confidant to a gentleman in need.”
