Police are investigating after a decomposed body was discovered behind a shopping centre in Northport early Wednesday morning.
A Northport Police Department spokesman confirmed the body was discovered Wednesday behind a business at the Vestavia Center on McFarland Boulevard and the case was turned over to the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, which is standard procedure for deaths outside of a hospital in the county and does not necessarily indicate criminal activity.
VCU Co-Commander Marty Sellers said investigators were called to the 200 block of McFarland Boulevard North around 9 a.m. Wednesday after a body was discovered.
Sellers said VCU is unable to confirm the identity of the body due to the advanced stage of decomposition, but added that at this time there is nothing suspicious found about the cause of death.
