What’s the best high school in your New Jersey county?
New Jersey is home to some of the best public high schools in the country, according to the annual rankings by U.S. News & World Report. (See below for a list of the top schools by county.)
The news site surveys about 25,000 participating high schools each year and ranks them based on state assessments in math, science and reading, college-level test scores and four-year graduation rates. It also takes into account the breadth of curriculum offered and success rates of black, Hispanic and low-income students.
Lincroft High School of High Technology was recently ranked as the top high school in New Jersey and the top STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) school in the nation. Monmouth County students must apply to attend this specialized and highly competitive public high school.
For 2024, 42 New Jersey schools ranked in the top 5% on U.S. News’ national list.

Did your high school make the #1 list? If not, here’s how the rest of the public high schools in each New Jersey county rated on the U.S. News 2024 list. Not all schools were ranked numerically. High schools at the bottom of the U.S. News list aren’t given a number and are listed as “Unranked.”
