I’m Nancy Alvarez, World Champion Lake Mary Little League player. We just got here. You just saw it live on our broadcast. Of course, we were all there to deliver a big welcome message to the players. Wesh Two has reporters covering the big news from the airport to Lake Mary. Bob Hazen Spencer, Tracy Gayle Pascal Brown and Dave McDaniel will be joining us all afternoon. Let’s start with Tony Atkins, who was just a little while ago heading to baggage claim at Orlando International Airport. The kids just got off the plane. I want to see Tony. Did you take your camera to baggage claim? Oh, you’ve got to go through security, but we’ll be there. I’m right where they got off a few minutes ago. We landed just before 3:30. When a plane leaves for its last flight, they usually fire off a water salute. There’s a hero’s welcome and it’s very exciting. You saw it just before the show. It was a big blast. The run itself and the team was almost insane. The coaches and the players were still fired up after the big win yesterday. I wanted to go live and let you all know that things are calm here. There were some guys here. They were heading to Chicago. As I got closer, they were confused. They didn’t know what was going on. Eventually, one of the staff here had to make an announcement to let people know what was going on. For those of you who didn’t hear the announcement, there was a sign here welcoming the Little League World Series Champions Lake Mary. It was a really exciting time. There were baseball balloons, colorful balloons, police, and it seemed like rock stars were passing through here with the press and enthusiasm. It was a really exciting time. For now, it’s pretty much back to normal here. But I’m sure it’s going to be fun again at baggage claim. The other thing I want to say is that I had a chance to talk to some of the people who were on the plane. They said it was an interesting flight, they had a lot of fun. You can imagine. They got off the plane and they didn’t know what was going on. It was like they were just caught, like a deer in the headlights. But we catch up with this team again and hear some more reactions from people at the airport as the team makes their way back from MCO to Lake Mary. This is Tony Atkins Wesh Two News, live from Orlando International Airport. I think they were lucky to be on that flight. It’s a story that will live on forever. And now our coverage of the team continues with Dave McDaniel, who is also at the airport. Dave, you spoke with the players before they boarded their flight home. Now, as Tony was saying, those conquering heroes just went through the TSA checkpoint on their way to baggage claim and are soaking up the experience. Some of you are here saying, “Who’s coming?” Oh, just the Little League World Champions from Lake Mary. Lake Mary and I’m going there. I’m proud of Orlando and I’m proud of Lake Mary. They’re here and they’re excited. And once again, we spoke with the head coach and some of the players, as they waited to board their flight home to be welcomed back in Newark. The joy on the field on Sunday. The elation that will last a lifetime. It was a magical journey, a magical run on the field. In this case, it’s the game the kids play, but it’s the hard work that leads to success. We put in a lot of work. We practiced twice a day, we ran miles and miles. We did boot camp, all to get here. Lake Mary, the world champions, lost in the Little League World Series. But we did what we had to do. They kept winning and eventually won. The hard work, hard work, hard work paid off and it showed on the field. These kids never gave up. They never stopped playing. They never got down or lost. It’s because they worked harder than anybody else. It was so exciting. It was all a great experience. It was just awesome to be a part of this team. His stealing a base to take advantage of Lake Mary’s chances was a big moment. They gave me a chance to score for the team, so I took advantage. It was a great experience. I love meeting new people and making new friends. Big successes, lasting memories. This is something the kids will never forget, after they do what it takes. They learn life lessons during practice. I tell them, try as hard as you can, because if you don’t do that in life and in your work, you will lose. I once spoke to a woman who was crazy about softball. She played softball for years and fell in love with this Lake Mary Little League team. When she realized that her travel plans would take her to the airport, she had to be here to see the team go home. You know what they say when there’s a big win? World champions, do you believe in miracles?
