It was the summer of 2024 for Lake Mary Little League.
Florida’s Little League team won the state’s first Little League World Series championship on Sunday, defeating Chinese Taipei, 2-1, in eight innings. The team never trailed in the game but sealed the victory on a Hunter Alexander bunt.
Alexander’s bunt was neatly caught by Chinese Taipei, but Chinese Taipei did not have a first baseman to receive the throw, so the ball flew into the outfield, allowing the runner on second to score.
Both teams were dominant on the mound, with Chinese Taipei scoring in the first inning but then being held in check by starter Jacob Bibeau and reliever Lathan Norton. Florida trailed 1-0 with three outs when first baseman DeMarcos Mises hit a fly ball to left field to tie the game.
