QUINCY, Ill. (KHQA) — The Crosstown Showdown is this Saturday, August 24th in Quincy.
The event aims to raise funds for both Quincy High School and Quincy Notre Dame University football programs.
Event organizers Jimmy Patterson and Andrew Wellman say local sports have impacted their lives and they’re happy to be able to give back to these programs in a special and fun way.
“We’ve done fundraisers in the past but we thought local sport, the local sporting community isn’t necessarily getting the funding it needs, so we decided to turn the fun into something that would raise money for something important,” Jimmy Patterson said.
The block party-style event will take place at The Scoreboard from 4pm until late at night.
All tips collected on the night will be donated, along with a portion of the profits from food and drink sold.
Muddy River Engraving will also be there, selling custom hats, koozies and tumblers, with 20% of sales from these items also being donated.
Participants will have the opportunity to decide how they want to spend their money based on where they place their tip and what school merchandise they purchase.
In addition to great food and drinks, there will also be bag tournaments and a different celebrity bartender every hour.
The bartenders come from different eras at both schools and include former teachers and students well known to the community.
The school that wins the most prizes will win bragging rights and a seven-foot tall trophy to proudly display.
If the event is well-received, the plan is to expand it in the future.
Participation in the event is free.
