NBC Sports announced that veteran motorsports commentator Lee Diffie will provide live commentary for the NASCAR Cup Series, beginning with this weekend’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 race at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, August 24 (primetime on NBC and Peacock) through the playoffs and season championship race in Phoenix on November 10.
Diffie, who recently served as NBC Sports’ track and field commentator for the Paris Olympics, is one of the most prolific commentators in motorsports, having served as the commentator for NBC Sports’ IndyCar for over a decade, including all six of NBC Sports’ Indianapolis 500 races, and has called play-by-play for nearly every major motorsports series, including NASCAR, F1, IMSA, Supercross and MotoGP.
The Michigan champion continued his strong form and maintained his No. 1 ranking in the world.
Diffie will take over call-and-response for the NASCAR Cup Series on NBC Sports, while longtime INDYCAR commentator Kevin Lee will handle call-and-response for the remainder of NBC Sports’ NTT IndyCar Series in 2024. Lee, who has more than 30 years of commentary experience, has served as host, pit reporter and play-by-play analyst for NBC Sports’ NTT IndyCar Series since 2009 and has called numerous IndyCar races this season.
Rick Allen will continue to serve as play-by-play commentator for the NASCAR Xfinity Series on NBC Sports. The Xfinity Series will air on USA Network through the Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 20, after which the CW Network will provide televised coverage of the Xfinity Series.
Allen has been the play-by-play announcer for the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series for NBC Sports since NBC Sports acquired the media rights prior to the 2015 season. Prior to joining NBC Sports, Allen served as the play-by-play announcer for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for more than 10 years.
Tyler Reddick won and moved into the points lead on Monday.
NBC Sports coverage of Daytona International Speedway will begin this Friday, August 23 at 3pm ET on USA Network with Xfinity Series qualifying, followed by Cup Series qualifying and the primetime Xfinity Series race. The NTT IndyCar Series will return to Portland International Raceway with the Portland Grand Prix on Sunday, August 25 at 3pm ET on USA Network and Peacock.
