A luxury apartment building proposed for downtown St. Petersburg could become the tallest tower on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
The project is backed by local office developer Feldman Equities and South Florida-based Property Markets Group, along with City Office REIT and Tower Realty Partners.
Plans submitted to the city call for a 49-story apartment and office building at 150 Second Ave. S. The site is currently a six-story parking garage for the City Center office complex.

If approved, the project would include 166 condominiums and more than 73,000 square feet of offices.
The plans also include more than 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and 780 parking spaces.
The tower will be 543 feet tall, about 30 feet taller than the Residences at 400 Central, a luxury condominium currently under construction downtown that will be the tallest building on the Gulf Coast.
Other media outlets have reported that the apartment complex will be Waldorf Astoria branded, but no one from the development team has confirmed that detail.
The five-star branded residences will be a first for St. Petersburg, but the concept is already popular in Tampa, where properties like the Ritz-Carlton Residences, Pendry and Edition have raked in tens of millions of dollars in sales.
“We look forward to bringing our five-star brand to St. Petersburg with this landmark luxury condominium project,” a spokesperson for the development team said in a statement. “This development will not only redefine the city’s skyline, but will also contribute significantly to its growing reputation as a world-class tourist destination.”
