Sacramento police are investigating the third break-in at a popular bookstore in just over a year. Just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, officers were at Beers Books on R Street when the break-in occurred. According to Sacramento police, officers found the store’s glass broken and filed a theft report. “We had to replace the windows before it cost thousands of dollars, especially for the commercial doors. We’re talking to our insurance company. Hopefully we don’t die from the deductible, but we take a hit every time,” Beers Books manager Andrew Naifai said. The store expressed its frustration on Instagram, saying someone threw a rock and kicked in the glass door, but left without stealing anything. Beers Books said this is the third break-in at the store in just over 12 months. The post said it would cost about $2,000 to replace the door. “We ask everyone to support local businesses and spread the word about Beers,” the post said. “We operate on very thin margins and this really hurts us.” KCRA 3 spoke with bookstore patrons who came out to show their support after the break-in. “I follow them on Instagram and I saw it happen in person and it’s heartbreaking. We love this place and we’re trying to help in any way we can and it’s just awful that something like this happens,” said Sarah Niederholzer. Officers responded to the break-in at Beers Books on R Street just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
The Sacramento Police Department said officers found broken glass in the store and filed a report of theft.
“We had to replace the windows before it cost thousands of dollars, especially on the commercial doors. We’re negotiating with the insurance company. We’re hoping the deductible won’t bankrupt us, but we’re getting hit every time,” said Andrew Naify, manager of Beard’s Books.
The store expressed its dissatisfaction on Instagram, saying someone had thrown rocks and kicked in the glass door but left without taking anything.
Beers Books said it was the third break-in at the company in just over 12 months.
The post said it would cost about $2,000 to replace the door.
“Please support your local businesses and spread the word about our beer,” the post read. “We operate on very thin margins and this really hurts.”
KCRA 3 spoke with bookstore patrons who came out to show their support after the break-in.
“I follow them on Instagram and I saw it in person and it’s heartbreaking. We love this place and we’re trying to help however we can and it’s horrible to see something like this happen,” Sarah Niederholzer said.
