A 16-month-old baby girl was abducted by her father while she and her two siblings fled from police and were later killed in a crash on a Maryland interstate on Wednesday, authorities said.
Virginia State Police identified the girl as Zaria Plummer. Her brother was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital.
According to a news release, the incident began when Virginia Beach Police responded to a call of a stabbing on J.A. Court. Officers found a woman and a juvenile with multiple stab wounds. Both were hospitalized in stable condition.
Police said the incident was domestic violence-related and that the suspect was Dana Plummer, 36, of Virginia Beach, who authorities say stabbed two people, then kidnapped three children and fled the scene.
An arrest warrant was issued for Plummer and Virginia State Police issued an Amber Alert for the missing children.
Authorities were contacted just before 9 a.m. Thursday by a citizen who recognized the vehicle through an Amber Alert, and state police attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 95 in Fairfax County, Virginia.
Maryland State Police said Plummer refused to stop and struck two other vehicles, causing the SUV to overturn. No occupants of the other vehicles were injured.
Plummer was hospitalized after the crash. Virginia Beach police said he was charged with aggravated assault, parental kidnapping, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and domestic violence. Charges in Maryland are pending.
