EAST LIVERPOOL — Tickets for the East Liverpool High School Sports Hall of Fame ceremony will be on sale through Tuesday at Tri-State Supply and Bob & Robin’s Flowers in East Liverpool. Tickets are $30 each and include a breakfast brunch and access to all ceremony events. The ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 24 in the auditorium.
Inductees include:
Jim Tice (Class of 1954) — Jim Tice is considered by many to be one of the East Liverpool area’s greatest contributors to baseball as a coach, manager and umpire. Jim was integral in the founding and leading of many area baseball leagues and organizations, including the Thoroughbred Baseball League, Columbiana County Baseball League and the East Liverpool Old Timers Association, and was a pioneer in the development of travel baseball. Jim spent countless hours coaching, umpiring, fundraising and maintaining fields to support area youth. Jim was also inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame by the nearby school, Beaver Local, for his contributions to local youth sports.
Lou Bolino (Class of 1970) — Lou Bolino is widely regarded as one of the best offensive linemen in ELHS history. He was a three-year letterman and a key player on the 1969 team that finished 7-2. Lou was named All-County First Team, Team MVP and All-State Honorable Mention en route to being selected for the 1969 Bill Booth Award. Lou made East Liverpool’s All-Time Football Team as a First Team Offensive Guard and continued his football career at Miami (Ohio) University. Lou was a coach and teacher for many years in the East Liverpool system before becoming a successful business owner in the area.
Chuck Harris (Class of 1968) — Chuck Harris is one of the best football players in Potter history, having been selected to the Ohio First Team during the 1967 season and known throughout the Potter football program as one of the toughest players of his era. Chuck was widely known as one of the best defensive players to ever don the blue and white and served as captain of the 1968 team as a defensive end on a team loaded with talent and exceptional athletes. He was named to the Potter All-Time Team, All-Defensive First Team and received various local and regional accolades for his performance.
Lindsay Baker (Class of 2017) — Lindsay Baker is widely considered one of the most talented and accomplished track and field athletes in Potter School history. Lindsay is the school record holder in both the shot put and discus, and has also broken several local meet records, including the Bellaire Relays, Brooke Invitational, and Golden Bear Invitational. She is a three-time Buckeye 8 champion and record holder, OVAC champion, two-time Columbiana County champion, and most notably an Ohio Division II district and regional champion, where she was ranked #1 in Ohio with a state third-place finish in the discus and was state champion in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 8.5 inches. Lindsay continued her athletic career at both Ashland University and Ohio State University, earning numerous All-American honors, including placing second at the U.S. Track and Field Championships and placing sixth in the world at the IAAF World Championships in Tampere, Finland.
Tony Mecchi (Class of 2007) — Tony Mecchi is a standout multi-sport athlete for the Potters, competing in track and football while also pacing the basketball team. In track and field, Tony was a four-year letterman and set the school record with 232 total points (surpassing the mark set by former Olympian Aric Long in 1988). He also broke the 800-meter record and was a multiple-time OVAC champion in events such as the 3200-meter relay and high jump. On the football field, Tony recorded 44 receptions in one season and was named to the Ohio Second Team, MAC Conference First Team, and All-Review. In basketball, Tony was a three-year letterman, team captain, named to the Region First Team, District Second Team, and was awarded the David Hoffman Scholarship.
Austin Mayfield (Class of 2017) — Named the starting quarterback on the All-Time Potter Football Team, Austin starred in both football and wrestling, being a four-year letterman in both sports. On the football field, Austin was named to the Ohio Second Team and was selected to the Ohio Division IV Eastern District First Team and All-OVAC. Austin holds four Potter football records, including most passing yards in a game (304), most passing yards in a season (1,715), most passing yards in a career (2,861) and most yards of offense in a season (2,147). In wrestling, he ranks fourth all-time with 132 wins at East Liverpool. He was the 2017 district champion and a three-time place winner in the OVAC Tournament. He won the Bill Booth Award in football and the Lou Vendetti Award in wrestling. He continued his athletic career at West Liberty University as a quarterback, linebacker and punter, where he was named All-MEC.
Eric D’Agosta (Class of 2007) — Eric D’Agosta was one of the most accomplished wrestlers in Potter College history, competing at heavyweight but also excelling in football. As a wrestler, he was named All-Area and All-OVAC Wrestler of the Year and placed third at the OHSAA Division II State Championships. He finished his career with 113 wins, good for seventh all-time at East Liverpool, and went 46-2 as a senior. In football, he was named All-OVAC and All-Area First Team. Known for his strength, Eric earned multiple NCAA Division I scholarship offers but ultimately continued his athletic career at Ohio State University.
Joey Cirone (Class of 2014) — Joey Cirone is one of the best golfers in Potter College history. A four-year letterman, he was named All-OVAC, All-Eastern District and All-Area three times. His teams won district championships and qualified for the state tournament in both his junior and senior seasons, finishing in 6th and 2nd place, respectively. In the final round at North Star in Columbus, Joey shot a tournament-low 73 to lead his team to a 2nd place finish. He was named several tournament medalists as a player at Potter College and eventually earned an athletic scholarship to continue his athletic career at West Liberty University.
Nikayla Edgell (Class of 2015) — Nikayla Edgell is known as one of the most talented basketball players to ever don a Potters jersey. She is East Liverpool girls basketball’s all-time scoring leader with 1,380 points and holds the all-time record for three-pointers made (216). She also holds the single-season records for three-pointers made in a game (9), three-pointers made in a season (119), points in a season (550), points in a game (43) and assists in a season (162). Nikayla is a two-time All-Ohio selection and a two-time Columbiana County Player of the Year. Additionally, she has been named All-District 5, All-OVAC, All-County, All-AP Eastern District multiple times and was the 2015 National Guard Player of the Year. Nikaila continued her athletic career at LaRoche University and later founded the New Level Basketball Academy in her hometown, and is currently the head women’s basketball coach at Salem University, an NCAA Division II program in West Virginia.
Justin Campbell (Class of 2003) — Justin Campbell is one of the most accomplished multi-sport athletes in East Liverpool history. While he excelled in track and field, he also led the Potters on the football and basketball courts. In track and field, Justin was a four-year letterman and competed in the state meet, finishing 13th in the 1600 meter run. He won multiple local and regional races in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs and was a member of the East Liverpool record-holding 3200 meter relay team. He held the county middle school 1600 meter record for over 20 years and was Columbiana County MVP his senior year of high school. On the football field, he led the team in rushing and touchdowns while serving as team captain and receiving the Bill Booth Award, was named All-Review, All-OVAC, All-Eastern District, and was selected for the prestigious Northeast Ohio Chapter Scholar-Athlete Award of the National Football Foundation. On the court, he served as captain of the Elite 8 team and was selected to play in the county All-Star Game. His most notable moment on the court was taking the ball from LeBron James. Justin received an athletic scholarship to compete in track and cross country at Miami University (Ohio), and later earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati. After running an independent pharmacy for several years, he moved to a hospital system. Justin has been the system director of outpatient pharmacy services at UC Health in Cincinnati for over 10 years.
