LAKE WALES, Fla. – A Frostproof father was arrested Friday after authorities said he left his 3-year-old son in a hot car in a Lake Wales grocery store parking lot.
Lake Wales Police said 70-year-old Sovur Dezurum was arrested on suspicion of negligent child abuse without bodily harm and leaving a child unattended in a vehicle for more than 15 minutes.
Officers said they responded to the Aldi at 753 Thompson Nursery Road after a call about a child being seen alone in a vehicle. When police arrived on scene, they said the 3-year-old boy was in a car seat in the back seat of a 2006 Nissan SUV.

The SUV’s window was shattered by about three inches, allowing minimal airflow, there were no adults inside or around the vehicle, and the engine was turned off.
Officers quickly extricated the child from the unlocked SUV, and West London Police said paramedics assessed the child’s welfare and found him to be in good health, but noted the 3-year-old was very hot and sweaty.
Detectives said DeSulme left her son in the SUV for more than 20 minutes while she was shopping at Aldi, and told investigators her son was often misbehaving in the store so she decided to leave him in the car.
