NEW JERSEY (WABC) — Stores are restocking their stock of back-to-school supplies, but before you bust your wallet buying too many basics, 7 On Your Side shows you how to shop smart and save big.
Some of you haven’t even gone on holiday yet and are thinking about going back to school, which will start soon.
Before you spend an average of $701 per child, according to a recent study, smart shopping expert Trae Bodge has some tips on how to shave some money off the bill.
“First, check your inventory and make sure you have everything you have and need. And second, take advantage of sale sites to save a little more on top of retailer sales,” says Bodge. “Coupon Cabin is my favorite because they have coupons and cash back offers that you can combine with retailer sales. A few offers I look forward to are Office Depot offering free Bluetooth earbuds with purchases over $150 and 1.5% cash back.”
Every percent counts. Both moms who shop with their kids at the Clifton Target are part of Circle Rewards Club, a free and easy way to earn the most deals and rewards.
Your kids might want a themed backpack – they love it, they say they absolutely want it – but they’ll soon outgrow it, so it’s better to choose a plain backpack that will last for years.

And don’t forget Spotify’s student premium account bundled with Hulu. Bodge also reminds you to use your web browser to automatically search for promo codes and check out discount stores.
“Buy in bulk, especially if you have multiple kids, and you can save 40 percent,” Boggi says.
If you have a membership to BJ’s, Sam’s Club, or Costco, you can get great savings on items like binders, pens, and even clothing and backpacks.
At Dollar General, you’ll find over 100 items under $1 from brands like Crayola, Bic, and Elmer’s.
Be sure to follow and like your favorite retailers ahead of time, as stores will often send you reward codes directly to your phone or mailbox.
