Virginia State Police are investigating the death of former US lawyer Jessica Abber.
Alexandria police said Tuesday that an investigation into the death of Aber, the top prosecutor of the Eastern District of Virginia for over three years, will remain open until the office of the examination room issues a final sentence.
“The investigation into Jessica Aber’s death is ongoing, but at this time, detectives have found no evidence to suggest that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes,” police said in a statement.
Abber, 43, was found by a police officer called in on a report of a person who was not responding at about 9:20am on Saturday, police said.
Police believe she died due to years of medical problems, a family friend told NBC News.
Abber was appointed US lawyer for the district by President Joe Biden on August 10, 2021, and was subsequently confirmed by the Senate.
She has been the district’s assistant US lawyer since 2009 and served as deputy chief of the criminal department before she was appointed our lawyer, according to her undergraduate biographies.
Aber announced his resignation as a US lawyer on January 20th, the day President Donald Trump took office in his second term.
American lawyers are political appointees selected by the president and can be dismissed at the will of the president.
Eric S. Siebert said in a statement that he was the district’s US lawyer and Aber was not ignored as a leader, leader or prosecutor.
