Mike Waltz, Donald Trump’s national security adviser, took full responsibility for the surprising military program leak on Signal Chat, but Trump stepped in to protect him, saying it was “the only glitch in two months.”
“I’m totally responsible. I’ve built a group. My job is to make sure everything is coordinated,” Waltz said in an interview with Fox News.
The Trump administration has scrambled to contain fallout since the Atlantic revealed on Monday that editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg had been accidentally added to chat with Waltz and other senior White House officials. The group discussed sensitive operational information regarding planned US airstrikes in Yemen.
Mike Waltz claims “fully responsible” for the signal, but cannot explain how it happened.
When pushed against Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Waltz accepts the responsibility to create a signal group, but he continues to distract himself from the responsibility, scorn Goldberg and says he cannot explain how the mistakes occurred.
“It’s embarrassing. Yes, we’re going to get to that bottom,” Waltz said, adding that he’s consulting with Elon Musk.
