The NFL free agency was quiet. That wasn’t the case. Russell Wilson has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Giants worth up to $21 million, with $10.5 million reportedly guaranteed. Then, just 20 minutes later, news broke that Stefon Diggs agreed to a $69 million deal with the New England Patriot for three years, and reportedly guaranteed $26 million. Both reports were made via ESPN.
That means he’ll become Wilson and Jamis Winston in the Giants’ QB Room, but Drake May is about to get a crash course with Diggs and WR1, a four-time Pro Bowler, who is also shy about expressing his opinion. It is believed that the Patriots have been waiting for a legal top option in the passing game forever and ever. Mike Vrabel is a type of coach who can line up team culture. Additionally, Diggs is reportedly ready to make it in time for his first week away from his torn ACL last October.
Elsewhere, JJ McCarthy said Tuesday that he was not said to be the Minnesota Vikings QB1. It’s a march, and while it’s not a complete surprise, the door remains cracked by the biggest name left in the NFL free agency.
Aaron Rodgers remains unsigned, and a report came out a few weeks ago, indicating that the Vikings had moved forward with McCarthy as their presumed starter, but the overall situation was too vague and non-specific to completely close the door above it. Especially when Rogers’ only concrete development was in a meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers last Friday.
As Yahoo Sports senior NFL reporter Charles Robinson wrote, one thing the Vikings can do to put this in bed is to sign a veteran QB and compete with McCarthy for a starting job or provide experienced guidance as a backup. It’s not happening, so we’re waiting. We’re waiting for Rogers to make a decision and for the Vikings to do something to truly show him not coming to the team this summer.
For the rest of the league, he’s already off the board, most of the top 25 available free agents from Yahoo Sports senior NFL writer Frank Schwab, as well as his position rankings. If you missed the news from the past few weeks, don’t worry. This month we tracked the NFL free agent trading.
Don’t forget: The NFL Draft isn’t too far. Cam Ward first made its way into the latest mock draft, with Yahoo Sports Draft expert Nate Tice writing his profiles for Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. Also check out Tice and McDonald’s Consensus Big Board.

JJ McCarthy: The Vikings haven’t told me ‘I’m QB1
JJ McCarthy is estimated to be the starting quarterback for the 2025 Minnesota Vikings, but the ghost of Aaron Rodgers has not yet been signed. The Vikings touched on the base at Rogers’ camp, but head coach Kevin O’Connell has yet to announce who will take the first snap in week one.
McCarthy, the Vikings’ first-round draft pick of 2024, who missed all of last season due to a knee injury, appeared on the “Up and Adams” show on Tuesday, and was asked by host Kay Adams if he was informed that he was the team’s No. 1 quarterback on the team is heading for the upcoming season.

Most of the NFL free agency actually takes place. It’s been going on for more than a week.
The veteran receiver has still decided on the next team and a few other veterans to contribute, but there isn’t much left between the top free agents. Teams carry out the plans, players sign and most of the league draft preparations.
And then there’s Aaron Rodgers.
Rogers takes his time to make decisions. He doesn’t have many options left, so depending on your perspective, it becomes more curious or uncomfortable.
However, there are still teams and players who need to hear what the Rodgers decision is before mapping the next move. And there weren’t many indications about what Rogers would do. Like it or not, there’s nothing like a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers have many options other than waiting.

Jerry Durack of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that Aaron Rodgers is at the Pittsburgh Steelers facility, but that’s not a sign that the deal is coming or coming.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero says the Rodgers are just meeting with their coach as they are thinking about their next stop.
Rogers’ landing spots have been declining in Wednesday’s news that the Minnesota Vikings are all in on JJ McCarthy next season. It will remain potential destinations as the Steelers, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants and Tennessee Titan are teams seeking help at quarterback.

WR Michael Gallup Unretires signs a one-year contract with a one-year commander
Receiver Michael Gallup has officially left his retirement and signed with the commander, the team announced. He agreed to a one-year contract for the minimum veterans.
Gallup, 29, retired from the NFL prior to the 2024 season. After six seasons with the Cowboys, he signed a one-year contract with the Raiders. He attended mini-camps with OTAS, but decided to retire before training at training camps, and Las Vegas put him on the sanctuary/retired list.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Gallup said after leaving Dallas he was not “in the right headspace.”
He tore the ACL with his left knee in week 17 of the 2021-22 season and returned to play the next two years with the Cowboys. However, Gallup’s production during these two seasons slipped remarkably, with an average of 36 receptions and 421 yards slipping.

Stephon Diggs visit the Patriot for each report
Stefon Diggs is one of the top NFL free agents remaining on the market, and according to Athletic’s Chadgraph, he is visiting the Patriots of New England.
Diggs was traded to the Texans last spring, but tore the ACL on October 29th and is still in the recovery process.
NFL Draft Evaluators do not consider this wide receiver class particularly strong, so it has become very important to add talent established through free agency (such as Coop-P) or extensions (such as Ja’marr Chase and Tee Higgins). The Patriots need Drake May’s weapons, and Diggs might be their man.
