FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Eagles rookie Johnny Wilson will not play in tonight’s game against New England.
The sixth-round pick out of Florida State University is undergoing concussion testing following Tuesday’s joint Eagles-Patriots practice.
The 23-year-old Wilson had a very good training camp, but his form seemed to ease up a bit last week, when he had just one catch for seven yards in Friday’s preseason opener against the Ravens and struggled to catch passes in one-on-one situations during drills.
The Eagles’ third receiver position remains up in the air. Parris Campbell (groin soreness) finally returned to practice on Tuesday but missed significant time and no one else has been able to fill the position in his absence.
Obviously, AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith will sit with the rest of the Eagles starters on Thursday night.
The starters at receiver on Thursday were John Ross, Jacob Harris and Britain Covey, and of this group, Covey has been performing well in camp and could compete for the WR3 position, or at least a spot in the rotation.
Wilson will most likely earn some sort of role as a rookie, so we’ll see how much time he misses.
The Eagles didn’t use any of their offensive starters on Thursday night, including Mekhi Becton, who appears to have earned the right guard spot, while the defense featured several potential starters, including Bryce Huff, Isaiah Rodgers, Kelly Ringo, Quinion Mitchell, Devin White and Zach Baun.
