Washington:
Elon Musk’s Tesla has seen a massive decline around the world, and has seen a massive decline in net worth of $120 billion since its entry into politics. But he and the EV sector are waiting for much more. President Donald Trump’s tariffs are expected to affect the EV sector, so we warn Tesla.
In an unsigned letter to US trade representative Jamieson Greer, Tesla said that while it “supports fair trade,” the US administration should ensure that it “will not inadvertently harm American businesses.”
Trump imposes tariffs that affect vehicles and parts made around the world.
In this letter, Tesla said: “As a US manufacturer and exporter, Tesla encourages the US Trade Representative (USTR) office to consider the downstream impacts of certain proposed actions taken to address unfair trade practices.”
“U.S. exporters are exposed to inherently disproportionate effects when other countries respond to US trade actions. Evaluations made by USTR of potential actions to correct unfair trade should also be considered exports from the USTR,” Tesla said.
“For example, past US trade measures have led to immediate responses by target countries, including increased tariffs on electric vehicles imported into these countries.”
In Germany, where Musk supports far-right parties, sales fell almost 70% compared to last January. For each time magazine, Tesla sold 7,517 vehicles in Europe in January. According to Reuters, Tesla lost 50% in Portugal and 45% in France, but 42% in Sweden and 48% in Norway.
Trump also said this week in the Truth Society that “radical left madman is trying to boycott Tesla illegally and republically, as often as he does.”
On Tuesday, Trump bought a brand new Red Tesla along with the company’s CEO. “Wow, that’s beautiful,” Trump said as he softened his Model X’s road to the driver’s seat.
Recently, anti-do protesters gathered near Tesla’s stores to protest his push to cut government funds with many flags that said, “Elon must leave” and “Hon if Elon Musk should be fired.”
“USTR should also consider implementation timelines as they continue to evaluate possible trade measures to rectify unfair trade practices. US companies will benefit from a step-by-step approach that allows them to prepare accordingly and take appropriate supply chain and compliance measures,” Tesla said.
