Mequon – The original ACE hardware location in Mequon, located on 11001 N. Port Washington Road, began the demolition process on Tuesday.
The store, which first opened in 1981, moved to the road last year and remains in the community after filling more than half of its previous Pickn saves at 11300 N. Port Washington Road, which had been vacant for over a decade. The other half is occupied by the planet’s fitness.
“It was a more destination than a store,” recalled Jim Hertz, manager of Han Ace Memo Equon, of the previous building. “It was one of the great spots. You’ll always come with your kids, grab some popcorn and shop, help out with your projects, and people will miss the intimacy of the store.”
The second-generation family-owned local Hearn Ace hardware, owned independently by Perry, Barb and Adam Hearn, currently serves Hartford, Delafield, Mukunago and Menomony waterfalls.
